Restoring peatlands for long-term climate benefits

The Illmyren project covers 74 hectares of peatland in Sweden. By conserving a peat layer of approximately 0.9 metres, the project keeps an estimated 28,400 tonnes of carbon in the ground. The project is implemented in cooperation with NABU.

The project is designed to conserve peat carbon, reduce greenhouse gas emissions from degraded peatland and support the recovery of wetland habitats. Any future carbon removals will depend on site conditions and monitoring results.
